Imperfect Faith and Divine Mercy

Immediately after Jesus announces His impending suffering and death, James and John approach Him not with comfort, but looking for a promotion. Their request for the seats of honor is raw, self-centered, and wildly out of sync with the gravity of the moment.
The Gospels are remarkably honest about the failings of the apostles. They are never presented as infallible heroes or polished icons, but as men who frequently stumbled over their own egos and misunderstandings. This transparency is a gift to us; it proves that the foundation of the Church was not built on human perfection, but on Divine mercy.
Christ does not demand we be sinless to draw near to Him. He only asks for an authentic faith that stays near Him in spite of our faults. He met the "Sons of Thunder" in their selfishness, and He meets us in ours, patiently refining our hearts until our desire for our own glory is transformed into a desire for the glory of His Kingdom.
