Fellowship of St. Theophan the Reculse

@FOSTR_Orthodoxy

An online community of Eastern Orthodox seekers and inquirers.
Bring your questions. All are welcome!

Who are we?

The Fellowship has over 1000 participants from North and South America, the British Isles, Europe, Africa, Australia and the Middle East.

We represent a mixed bag of interest levels. Some are very intentional about becoming Orthodox, but aren't anywhere near an Orthodox church. Some would like to become more involved in the Orthodox Church, but cannot for a variety of reasons. Others are just checking Eastern Orthodoxy out.

We also have Orthodox Christians who can't get to church regularly, or the church they attend has services and programs in a language they don't understand.

All are welcome!

Who was St Theophan the Recluse?

St Theophan was born in Russia's Orlov province in 1815. A graduate of the Kyiv Theologican Academy, he became a bishop in 1859. In 1866, he left active ministry, entering a life of monastic seclusion until his death in 1894.

Although a recluse, St Theophan engaged in a thriving ministry of spiritual counsel. He carried out this ministry almost exclusively through correspondence, answering 20 to 40 letters every day.
